We are looking for an experienced designer that has developed effective design systems in the past. You’re a self-starting designer who thrives on building out intricate design systems and continually looks for ways to improve its effectiveness.
You have a naturally good eye, obsessively meticulous when it comes to detail and are confident in your craft.
We have been designing our system over the last 6 months, but never with a dedicated team leading this work. Now, we are moving to a model where we have a dedicated, multi-discipline squad focused on building this product and scaling it across our digital product organisation.
The squad consists of four key roles – a design system lead as the owner of the squad, two front-end developers, and yourself, a product designer (UX/UI). You will play a key role in helping us to accelerate and scale our design system, called Arcturus, so that it can help us achieve our business goals and deliver customer outcomes.
We are a global design team based across the UK and North America. Our UK head offices are based in Cardiff, Stratford and Manchester. However, we have a flexible workplace policy and you'll be able to work remotely from anywhere in the UK.
What that means day to day
With a focus on accessibility and inclusion, you will work with your design and engineering partners to create reusable codified components, patterns and templates, underpinned by usage criteria and guidance, to provide the building blocks for our digital product squads to solve common design and user-interface challenges.
You will have a bullet-proof eye for identifying common design patterns throughout web and native mobile platforms and an understanding of how to implement these patterns into our system.
Your key responsibilities will include:
What you’ll need to be successful
- Work closely in a cross-functional team to ensure the design system and all its parts are both beautifully crafted and well-maintained
- Advocate for the adoption and advancement of the design system itself
- Design, prototype, and document interaction patterns
- Plan and lead design sessions to generate ideas or feedback
- Work with designers and engineers to evolve UX and UI patterns, giving and receiving feedback in design critiques and conversations
- Pair-design with designers from different squads to see how you can improve the foundations of their work
- Organise robust Figma libraries and keep them neat and usable
- Being a team player and sharing your knowledge with our design community
What you’ll get in return
- 3+ years of experience designing responsive web and native mobile apps in SAAS companies
- Degree in design, human computer interaction, or other related field
- A demonstrable portfolio of work which showcases UX and UI work for mobile and desktop projects as well as your approach to problem solving
- You have a product-first mindset and you're an outspoken advocate for user needs
- You have experience planning, conducting and synthesizing the results of usability studies and user interviews
- Comfort in working autonomously. You're able to proactively plan and scope your work in order to sequence it with your squad
- Experience and comfort owning projects from inception to completion
- Very effective UI, IxD, and visual design skills and processes
- Experience working in Figma
- Very effective communication skills (oral, written, and visual)
- Experience working in an agile environment and can test, validate and iterate on your solutions
- You champion accessibility and inclusivity throughout the user journey

FOR FUN – You spend a significant percentage of your time with your colleagues (and what a great bunch of people they are!) and it’s important to us that everyone contributes to an environment that is positive and full of laughs. We’ve always got something going on, from charity events and competitions to recognition events and awards and we encourage our teams to get involved and have fun along the way.
