Why Swansea City Hockey Club?

Helping others become safer, healthier at stronger is at the heart of what we do. At Alcumus, we pride ourselves on giving back to the community whenever we can.

So, when we found out that Amy Burton, one of our Technical Support Officers at Alcumus SafeContractor, was representing Wales in the EuroHockey Club Challenge 1 in Edinburgh, we jumped at the chance to show our support by sponsoring the team’s kit.

Amy says: “We have just been to Edinburgh to represent Wales in the EuroHockey Club Challenge 1. We are a national league hockey team playing in the English Conference and are the highest ranked women’s hockey team in Wales.”

“The competition was staged over four days at Edinburgh University. We started the competition strong with back-to-back draws against Switzerland (3-3) and Scotland (2-1). A closely contested game against Russia saw us lose our final pool game (4-3), finishing bottom of our pool with only 4 points separating the top and bottom places.”

“Unfortunately, three days playing in the heat and numerous injuries within the squad saw Swansea defeated 3-1 in the final match, finishing the tournament in 7th position.”

While Amy and the team didn’t come away from Edinburgh with the outcome they had hoped for, the overall experience that they had was exciting and positive. Amy continues: “Despite what the final outcome might suggest, we had a fantastic tournament and played some very high-level hockey on an international platform. This should stand us in very good stead heading into preseason training for the 2018/19 season ahead.”

Actively Helping the Community

This is just one of many ways that Alcumus gives back to the community. Our aim is to ensure that we inspire people to live a healthy lifestyle and, in turn, help to build a safer, healthier and stronger community.

In fact, Alcumus SafeContractor held a spin session on Friday 1st June to raise money for the Cancer Care Ward in Singleton Hospital. Twenty employees volunteered to try and rack up as many miles as they could in fifteen minutes to support patients at Ward 12.
