This course explains how to manage absence and comply with employment law requirements. It’s designed for supervisors and managers who need to manage the cost and impact of employees’ absence.
On completion of the course, attendees will better understand the following:

- The legal framework and the risks and potential consequences of getting it wrong
This course is for supervisors and managers who are responsible for staff performance. It explains how to effectively manage the appraisal process.
On completion of the course, attendees will better understand the following:
- The objectives of an appraisal review
- How to prepare for an appraisal
- How to conduct an appraisal review
- How to set SMART objectives
- Plan for future performance/development
This course explains how to manage expectations regarding employee and management behaviour in the workplace based on legal obligations and company policy. It focuses on understanding the benefits to the company in embracing a positive equal opportunities and diversity policy.
On completion of the course, delegates will be able to better understand the following:
- Definitions
- What does ‘equal opportunity’ really mean?
- What is diversity?
- When does it apply?
- Bullying and harassment
- Direct and indirect discrimination
- Victimisation
- How to make reasonable adjustments for employees who have specific needs ie neurodiversity
This course explains what grievances are (informal and formal), how they should be dealt with to reduce the risk of an employment tribunal claim and the procedure to be followed.
The course is designed for line managers/senior management who are responsible for managing employees and dealing with disputes.
On completion of the course, attendees will better understand the following:
- How to identify grievances
- How to deal with grievances including informal grievances
- The procedure for dealing with formal grievances – meeting, grievance investigation, grievance outcome letter, appeals
- Understand the impact/risk of not dealing with grievances (such as employment tribunal claims for constructive unfair dismissal/ discrimination

- The legal framework on disciplinary procedures
- How to carry out a thorough investigation & effective disciplinary hearings
- When to suspend an employee
- The rights to be accompanied/role of a companion
- What are protected characteristics/different types of discrimination
- The risks and potential consequences of getting it wrong.
This course explains how to handle investigations, including how it fits with the disciplinary process as a whole, how to approach the investigation meetings and how to speak to witnesses.
On completion of the course, attendees will better understand the following:
- How best to prepare for the investigation meeting
- When is suspension appropriate
- Carrying out the investigation
- Speaking to witnesses
- The use of open questions
- How investigations fit into the disciplinary process as a whole
This course is designed for managers with little experience of managing people or those who already have some experience but would like a refresher.
